Micro-Credential in Cell Biology
Programme Overview
The course caters the fundamental concepts of cell biology. During the course students will gain insight knowledge into the structure of various organelles and their specific metabolic function of eukaryotes and prokaryotes cells. This course also covers the importance of cellular processes such as cell cycle regulation at genes level, signal transduction and cell death mechanisms. Overview of cancer will be also discussed. Topics discussed include nuclear, organelle, membrane and cytoskeletal structures and associated functions including DNA replication, transcription, translation, cell signalling, cell cycle, cell death and cancer.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course participants should be able to:
• Describe the origin of cells and the evolution of metabolism
• Explain structure and function of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, membranes, and organelles
• Illustrate the cellular processes such as cell cycle regulation at genes level, signal transduction, cell death
and cancer.
• Demonstrate the ability to carry out experiments in cell biology
• Demonstrate interchangeable role of leaders and followers in a team to reflect learning experience
Course Progression
Credits from this Micro-Credential Programme are transferable to the following full academic programme:
