Micro-Credential in Principles of Speech Coding
Programe Overview:
The module’s rationale is to enable the Learner to be able to develop the knowledge and get broad exposure to the concepts of speech coding in telecommunication systems. Today, speech coders have become essential components in telecommunications and in the multimedia infrastructure. Commercial systems that rely on efficient speech coding include cellular communication, voice over internet protocol (VOIP), videoconferencing, electronic toys, archiving, and digital simultaneous voice and data (DSVD), as well as numerous PC-based games and multimedia applications. This course introduces the fundamentals of speech coding in telecommunication system. Speech coding is an application of data compression of digital audio signals containing speech.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course participants should be able to:
• Classify the characteristics of speech signals and the principles of speech production and speech modelling.
• Explain on the speech processing, sampling theory and quantization and be able to relate to the practical examples where these methods are implemented in speech coding.
• Generate coding methods for the speech signals and discuss the coding and vector quantization for speech coding.
• Analyze the signal processing in VoIP systems
• Prepare a report on the topics related to speech coding techniques using valid resources.
• Present on a topic related to principles of speech coding.
