Micro-Credential in Medical Microbiology
Programme Overview
The basic principles of medical microbiology and the pathogenesis of infectious disease and of clinically important microbial pathogens including bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi. Recent concepts will be described and students will be expected to present and critically discuss research advances of their choosing from the current research literature. The students will be introduced to the pathogenesis of the various infectious agents. The course will also cover some topics related to community health, including the modes and sources of infections as well as prevention of these infections.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course participants should be able to:
- Describe the basic principles of medical microbiology and the clinically important microbial pathogens including bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi
- Illustrate the pathogenesis of the various infectious agents, including the modes, sources of infections and microbiological techniques for diagnosis infection as well as prevention of these infections
- Demonstrate the ability to carry out experiments in medical microbiology
- Present professionally on related topic in medical microbiology
Course Progression
Credits from this Micro-Credential Programme are transferable to the following full academic programme:
- Degree of Biotechnology
Assessments
- Coursework 80%
- Final Examination 20%
