Micro-Credential in Biodiversity & Taxonomy
Programme Overview
Biodiversity is the degree of variation of life forms within a given species, ecosystem, biome, or an entire planet. The course deals with the measure of the health of the ecosystems and a part of function of the climate. The course consists of basic concept of biodiversity; genetic diversity; species diversity; patterns of species diversity; global patterns of biodiversity; biogeography; biodiversity and conservation; exotic species; problems in controlling international trade; ethics of conservation; the value of biodiversity; basic concept of taxonomy; molecular taxonomy in relation to morphology, evolution, DNA characteristics and protein sequences; and genomic DNA analysis on biodiversity.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course participants should be able to:
- Describe the concepts of biodiversity and taxonomy
- Outline how human activities impact the biodiversity
- Interpret the analysis of molecular taxonomy in relation to morphology, evolution, DNA and protein sequences
- Perform experiments on biodiversity and taxonomy
- Present professionally on biodiversity and taxonomy
Course Progression
Credits from this Micro-Credential Programme are transferable to the following full academic programme:
- Degree of Biotechnology
Assessments
