Programme Overview
Master of Science in Biotechnology is considered to be a multidisciplinary degree that includes aspects of biology and chemistry. Students gain knowledge about Proteomics, Bio-informatics, Genomics along with Microbial epidemiology. In this manner efficient professionals and expertise will be generated in the field of biotechnology for the biotechnology industries intended for research and development. In the present time biotechnology is an applied area of science with a multidisciplinary viewpoint encompassing recombinant DNA technology, Cellular Biology, Microbiology, as well as process design, genetic engineering, drug and protein modelling and quality control.
For successful completion of Masters degree in LUC, each candidate should publish minimum of Two research articles in scopus indexed journals, with Lincoln affiliation.

Entry Requirements
i. Passed a Bachelor’s degree (Level 6 KKM) in the field of Biotechnology or Life Sciences or Microbiology or Molecular Biology Biochemistry with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 as recognized by the PPT senate;
or
ii. Other qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6 KKM) in a related field with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 as recognized by the PPT senate;
or
iii. Overseas candidates must have TOEFL (550) or IELTS (6).

Program Aim
The programme deals with the knowledge as well as the principles related to the biotechnology in accordance with health and science sectors. The course offers information about the living organisms and their ecosystems as well. Moreover, this course evaluates the use of technology to benefit humanity. The programme is intended to teach the potential implications of biotechnology and to learn its significance in our daily lives.
The programme will produce Biotechnologists who are:
- Knowledgeable in relevant areas of biotechnology as well will be able to contribute to the socio-economy of the society
- Aware of current issues and technological advancement in biotechnology taking into account relevant commercial, ethical and legal issues

What is the Master of Science in Biotechnology (Coursework) program?
The Master of Science in Biotechnology (Coursework) is a postgraduate degree that focuses on advanced topics in biotechnology with a strong emphasis on practical applications. The coursework-based program allows students to deepen their knowledge and skills in biotechnology while preparing them for roles in industry, research, and development without the need for a full thesis.
What are the basic requirements for joining the MSC program?
i- A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in a related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.75, or its equivalent, as accepted by the HEP Senate;
OR
ii- A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in a related field with at least CGPA of 2.50 and has not achieved CGPA 2.75, or its equivalent can be accepted subject to a rigorous internal assessment;
OR
iii- A Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in related field but has not achieved CGPA of 2.50, or its equivalent can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years’ working experience in the relevant field.
I am not a Malaysian. What trinscripts can I submit?
They must meet the academic and English language proficiency requirements and follow the necessary visa application process.
Is the Master’s program available as part time?
Part time MSc in Biotechnology (coursework) is available to both Malaysian and international applicants.
Can I join the program at any time of the year?
The MSc program has a three intakes per year (March, July, November). You can apply for admission at any time of the year to get admission for the nearest intake.

What health problems can lead to my application for the master program be rejected?
The candidate should be free from any serious physical or mental illness that would hamper the study and research work. Medical check ups for serious communicable diseases such as hepatitis is mandatory prior to admission into the program.
After joining MSc program, can I transfer to other program or university?
LUC allows transfer transfer to other programs offered by the university provided the candidate attains eligibility for that program. This is achieved by transfer of credits from the departing program to the program the candidate wishes to join. Transfer to another university is possible but is very complicated and dependant on a number of factors based on the ministry of higher education and Malaysian qualification agency.
After completing the MSc program, what options do I have?
After completion of the MSc program, you can apply for a PhD degree at LUC or other universities across the world or work as lecturer in any life science department or researcher in any research center
What is the difference between MSc Biotechnology (Coursework) and MSc Biotechnology (Research)?
MSc Biotechnology (Coursework) focuses primarily on taught modules with practical and industry-focused learning. It’s ideal for those seeking employment or advancement in the Biotechnology industry.
MSc Biotechnology (Research) emphasizes independent Research and the completion of a thesis. It’s more suitable for students who wish to pursue a career in Research or academia.
Are there prerequisite courses I need to complete before applying?
If your schooling/Bachelor’s degree has been done in a language other than English, you have to take up a language course for attaining a certain level of proficiency.

What are the language requirements for international students?
International students are required to achieve a minimum score of 5.5 in IELTS OR Band 3 in MUET OR its equivalent.
What if I don’t have the minimum requirement in English?
We have English proficiency courses to ensure that it meets the sufficient requirement. This course will be conducted by the staff at LUC.
Is it possible to take Malaysian University English Test (MUET) while studying?
Yes, you can take the MUET during your studies. We offer the flexibility for students to take MUET while enrolled in their programs, especially if need to meet specific English language proficiency requirements for graduation.

Do I need any recommendation letters for admission?
Recommendation letters are not required for joining the MSc program. Academic transcripts signifying the eligibility of the candidate is sufficient to join the MSc program.
