Programme Overview

Our program, Master of Nursing (Public Health) is designed for nurses interested in disease-prevention and community and population health. The program offers population-based care that is deferential of human dignity and patient sovereignty. Students are prepared to promote for ethical and just health care policies and promote public health and wellness in endeavors to reduce health disparities and enhance the quality of life for diverse communities and populations. The program is offered in Open and Distance Learning Mode (ODL).

  1. Degree in Nursing or Nursing related degree with minimum CGPA of 2.75 or its equivalent is accepted by the Higher Educational Provider (HEP) senate; or
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or nursing related not meeting CGPA of 2.75 but above CGPA of 2.5 can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment and
  3. Registered with Nursing Board or its equivalent.
  4. Possess current Annual Practicing Certificate; and
  5. Minimum 3 years working experience for Bachelor’s degree holders; and
  6. Advanced Diploma/ Certificate/ Post Basic in Public Health
  7. Health status:
    1. Students must be certified medically fit by a registered medical practitioner recognized by the recruiting institution
    2. Students with the following medical conditions, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B or C, any mental health disorders, Epilepsy, and other chronic diseases cannot be admitted into the programme.
    3. Students must not have any physical or impaired senses that hinder nursing dexterity.
  8. Pass LUC Entry English Placement test; or
  9. Proficiency in Bahasa lnggeris (English Language) of its equivalent.
  10. Foreign candidate must obtain:
    1. Temporary Practicing Certificate (TPC) for clinical programme; and
    2. Pass international English Language Testing Services (IELTS) with a minimum 6.0 & above or;
    3. Test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL) with a minimum of 600.

Professionals of Master of Nursing (Public Health) can work as a:

• Healthcare Administrator

This program prepares the candidates to assume leadership roles in assessing communities and populations; identifying high-risk groups; and developing culturally sensitive, acceptable, and realistic population-based nursing interventions.

About The Program

MPH Public Health (ODL) focuses is on the public health/ community nursing using open distance learning mode. The curriculum which includes policy, strategies relevant to the practice of public / community services. It also includes contemporary issues within the ODL learning mode 

As a public health personal learning Master of public Health (ODL), the potential graduate with knowledge relevant to preventive and wellness are able to deliver the services towards healthy population with involvement of the community they are serving

Students are also equipped with research knowledge that prepare then to further pursue their studies or do research in the areas that are they working

Currently the LUC has the support system which enable students to engage and communicate the learning process

  1. MOODLE where all the documents relevant are upload and easy access
  2. Students have access to the lectures should they needs personal consultation
  3. Other relevant support such as online books and journals

 

The faculty members who provide the teachings and clinical skills are experts and graduates in the field of public health at PhD levels with years of experiences in teaching and clinical both locally and internationally.

All registered nurses with annual practicing certificates and preferably have midwifery and work experiences in the community

The program Master of Public Health (ODL) started in October 2024 and the program duration is 18 months or 6 semesters

Admission

The minimum academic qualification to enter the program is Bachelor in nursing with midwifery and public health nursing if available

It is best work experiences in the field of community/ public health to enable student better understand the scope of study related to community.

No, interview for Master of Public Health (ODL) is not required but consultation with academics teaching /involved in the learning is advisable and useful to have better insight of the program

No, you cannot apply until if have your degree. This is the requirement set by Malaysia Nursing and Midwifery Board.

There is not age limit to enter into the Master of Public Health (ODL) and being healthy and ability to be in clinical is best

There is no actual standard profile as long at the academic requirements are met for the Master of Public Health (ODL)

Program Structure and Duration

The program lasted for 1 ½ years or 18 months which include theory, clinical experiences and research

The program structure Master of Public Health (ODL)are as follow

Semester 1: 2 subjects (Research methodology; Philosophies and Theories in Nursing

Semester 2: 3 subjects (Issues and trends in nursing; Statistics and Statistical Computing for Nurses; Healthcare Policies

Semester 3: 3 subjects (Primary Health Care; Research Project I)

Semester 4: 2 subjects (Leadership and Management; Family Health Care)

Semester 5: 1 subject (Research Project II: Project Paper

Semester 6: 1 subject (Practicum in Nursing)

The program run mostly at night 8-10 pm every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) on line face to face. This is fortnightly (Synchronized).  The other fortnight is Asynchronized). Changes of time and day may require if there is a need and agreed by both lecturers and students

English Proficiency

Having a good command of English/ certificate is required for international students

That will be a good choice to prepare you to better understand learn effectively including writing of assignment

The program currently has provisional Accreditation (PA) from Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA

In genera Malaysia Annual Practicing certificate are recognized worldwide but as practiced by other countries, to work internationally, there is examination that the nurses are required to sit to work in a country of their choice
