Programme Overview

The Master of Science in Healthcare entails a course of study in the area of healthcare and focuses on it in greater depth than a bachelor’s degree. A normal master’s degree can be earned in one to three years and gives students the in-depth knowledge they need to develop their careers in a variety of professions. A graduate with a Master of Health Science degree will have strong clinical research technique skills that they can use in their academic and professional pursuits. The course is designed for students who wish to learn how to use epidemiological and statistical techniques to assess and carry out clinical research. Clinicians and clinical administrators who complete the Master of Science in Healthcare program are given the leadership vision and operational abilities necessary to spearhead successful quality improvement and safety projects within their own healthcare organizations.

Entry Requirements :

i. A Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6 Malaysian Qualifications Framework, MQF) in the Health Sciences or related fields with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.75 or equivalent, as accepted by the Lincoln University College Senate; or
ii. A Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6 MQF) in the Health Sciences or related fields or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; or
iii. A Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6 MQF) in the Health Sciences or related fields or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of five years working experience in the relevant field and rigorous internal assessment.

For International students, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 5.0 OR International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.0 OR its equivalent is needed. If a student does not meet this requirement, HEPs must offer English proficiency courses to ensure that the student’s proficiency is sufficient to meet the needs of the programme. This is normally conducted through an assessment process.

The program’s goal is to equip its graduates with the skills necessary to lead effectively in the fields of health promotion and education, healthcare systems, community health organizations, and other public health settings. The aspirants will be able to:

Academic Standing

Students must successfully complete all coursework modules and the portfolio of evidences from the Center for Post Graduate Studies  for the research project, with no outstanding assessments, incomplete grades, or failed courses in their academic record at the time of graduation approval.

 

Final Approval

Endorsement by the School, Academic Committees, and approval by the Lincoln University College Senate. 

Graduation is awarded only upon successful completion of all prescribed formative and summative assessment components. Students must demonstrate satisfactory attainment of the Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) and Programme Learning Outcomes (PLOs) in accordance with the approved assessment structure of the Master of Science in Healthcare by Research as the programme.

What are the minimum academic qualifications required for admission into the Master of Science in Healthcare (By Research) program?

 

  1. A bachelor’s degree in the field of Health Sciences or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent, as accepted by the HEP Senate; or
  2. A bachelor’s degree in the field of Health Sciences or related fields or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; or
  3. iii. A bachelor’s degree in the field of Health Sciences or related fields or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in the relevant field and rigorous internal assessment.
  4. Iv. Registration with the Nursing Board Malaysia, a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC)

  • compulsory two course work with credit value 6 and no credit transfer for Master of science in Healthcare by Research

 

  • It is compulsory for students in Semesters 1 & 2 to take two (2) Coursework courses, namely in Advanced Research Methodology and computer Application.
  • Students must defend their research proposal to examiners.
  • Students proceed with their research under supervision of supervisors.

Students submit final thesis for Viva with Internal and External Examiners.

What are the minimum academic requirements to graduate from my Master of Science in Healthcare by Research program?

To graduate from the Master of Science (MSc) in Healthcare by Research program, students must successfully complete all prescribed assessments for the taught courses and capstone projects listed in the program structure, with no outstanding incomplete or failed grades in their academic record at the time of graduation approval. This includes:

  • Program Core subjects: 2 subjects including:
  • Taught course modules: 2 modules from the   Research project: open credit (no credit value) •       Research dissertation requirements:  o 45 supervisor meeting sessions with attendance sheets o            2 oral International conference presentations of the accepted project 
    • Checklist completion portfolio or logbook submission from the Centre for Post Graduate Studies 
    • 1 SCOPUS indexed publication starting at quartile 3 to 1 addressing the accepted project
