Micro-Credential in Design of Substructures
Programme Overview
The course offered by Lincoln University College (LUC) is focused on producing highly competitive professionals in the fields of civil engineering capable of taking on challenges. This course is designed for working class adults whose careers and responsibilities go beyond a single functional specialty and require a broad array of specialized knowledge and skills in Civil Engineering. The course would impart and enhance capability and capacity to develop a healthy body and mind to become a disciplined individual, disciplined manager, and disciplined leader. These courses deal with the engineering properties of soil, principles of soil exploration and limit state design, general design principles of foundations and earth pressures.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course participants should be able to:
- Describe building and construction terminology.
- Analyze the construction of a residential building from site works, builder’s plant, substructure, superstructure, internal construction and finishes, up to and including domestic services.
- Display the single piles and pile groups including settlement prediction for both short term and long-term conditions through a project model.
- Design the different types of substructures, raft model and pile foundation.
Course Progression
Credits from this Micro-Credential Programme are transferable to the following full academic programme:
- Master of Science in Civil Engineering
Assessments
- Coursework 60%
- Final Examination 40%
