Programme Overview
Biosafety, Bioregulation and Bioethics in Biotechnology is a lecture and tutorial based subject focusing on providing students with the theoretical understanding of biosafety and ethical perspectives of biotechnology. The course also helps to secure meaningful information for participation in decision making on development of moral, ethical and biosafety issues of biotechnology products (i.e. GMOs), alongside its practice and application so that students will appreciate its benefits and possible pit-falls.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course participants should be able to:
- Describe the fundamental principles of Biosafety, Bioregulation, Bioethics and Biopolicy in biotechnology
- Compare the terms of biosafety risk assessment, risk analysis, risk management and communication
- Discuss on the Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in biotechnology ethical and social economic issues
- Analyze the impact of biotechnology ethics on environment and professional practice in a team
- Prepare assignment using a variety of resource materials
